Children’s Dental Checkups & Cleanings

As with adults, we like to see kids for routine visits every six months. Doing so ensures their smiles stay bright and healthy all through childhood. Each appointment consists of a brief oral exam and thorough teeth cleaning to help us diagnose minor dental issues and prevent bigger ones later. Plus, we end every visit with tips on brushing and flossing at home. Your child will then be ready to maintain a strong and vibrant smile.

Dental Sealants

Our office suggests dental sealant treatment for kids prone to tooth decay. Our team will apply clear resin coatings to your child’s back teeth – their premolars or molars. Once set, these coatings harden and protect tooth enamel from harmful microbes. They’ll then blend seamlessly with your young one’s smile and reduce their risk of cavities, with the ability to continue protecting their teeth for four to eight years. To learn whether sealants are right for your child, talk to Dr. Farruggia or our hygienists.

Silver Diamine Fluoride

Silver Diamine Fluoride (SDF) is able to slow the progress of dental caries in addition to providing lasting protection from future threats of decay. The treatment is also fast and pain-free, making it perfect for children, as they won’t have to sit in the dental chair for any longer than necessary. All that’s required of our team is to brush a clear liquid (SDF) over the tooth with a cavity. This will arrest the cavity and fortify the enamel, helping reverse the effects of decay.

Lip & Tongue-Tie Treatment

Lip and tongue ties occur when the frenum, which are the thin pieces of soft oral tissue that connect the lips to the gums and tongue to the floor of the mouth, are overgrown or excessively long. When this occurs, it can restrict your child’s ability to move their lips and tongue, making important and basic tasks, like nursing and speaking, much more difficult for them. Dr. Farruggia offers laser frenectomies to help release their ties and regain full mobility of their mouth.

Athletic Mouthguards/ Sportsguards

Does your child love participating in sports like football, basketball, and soccer? Many of these activities involve falls and collisions that lead to chipped, cracked, and knocked-out teeth. Even so, you can reduce your youngster’s risk with one of our athletic mouthguards. This device is custom-made to protect your child’s smile from outside forces. By wearing it, your child could play with their teeth secure.
