What are Dental Implants?

At their core, dental implants are small titanium posts. They’re made to act as alternative tooth roots for your now-missing teeth.

Due to their makeup, dental implants don't work like dentures and bridges do. They are set in your jaw instead of on top of your gums. That way, the posts will fuse with (and stimulate the growth of) nearby bone tissue, where they will become secure and permanent parts of your jawbone. Once this fusion is done, the implants can support your final restoration (a dental crown, bridge, or denture.)

The 4 Step Dental Implant Process

Like any other dentist, Dr. Farruggia follows a complex process to place dental implants. The four crucial steps of this process are:

  • Initial Dental Implant Consultation – Before the actual treatment, you’ll consult Dr. Farruggia. Doing so helps us learn about your oral health, smile goals, etc.
  • Dental Implant Surgery – With our approval, you’ll get implant surgery soon after the consultation phase. We’ll perform this placement work at our office.
  • Dental Implant Osseointegration/Abutment – Your implants will slowly fuse with your jaw after surgery. We’ll then place your abutments (i.e., metal connectors set in your implants) once this fusion is completed.
  • Delivery of Dental Implant Restoration(s) – Sometime after your earlier surgeries, you’ll visit us for your final restoration. This item may be a dental crown, bridge, or denture.

Benefits of Dental Implants

By getting dental implants for your smile, you’ll experience benefits such as:

  • Highly-Successful Care – When placed by qualified dentists, implants have a long-term success rate of over 95%!
  • Lifelike Smile – Since they’re capped with porcelain, implants blend seamlessly with your smile.
  • Youthful Appearance – Dental implants stimulate your jawbone, making your face look young and vibrant.
  • Easy Eating – Dental implants let you chew tough foods by restoring your bite force.
  • Long-Lasting Results – With good maintenance, dental implants can last twenty years or more.
